Veterans and Military Appreciation Night set for Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, MO. (July 15, 2024) - Lucas Oil Speedway has a long tradition of recognizing active-duty military and veterans before each racing program. This week, it will be taken to an even higher level with Horton Supply Company Veterans and Military Night at the Races.

All veterans and active duty military members will be admitted free with ID as the Big Adventure RV Weekly Championship Series resumes. The Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modifieds will headline the program with a special 25-lap, $1,000-to-win main event.

"I especially enjoy this particular weekly show as we get to show our special respects to the veterans and military personnel of all our branches of service," said Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton, himself a United States Navy veteran.

"Acknowledging our military is one of our great weekly traditions at Lucas Oil Speedway, but this week they get just a little more special treat of free admission. It's just one way of saying thanks to those special men and women."

Extra racing also will be included on the program. The completion of the O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars feature, which was postponed by threatening weather on July 4th, will begin the program following hot laps. Action then moves into the regular four classes with Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mods and Hermitage Lumber POWRi Late Models joining the Modifieds and Stock Cars.

Season championship battles are hot in three of the four divisions. Jaylen Wettengel of Topeka, Kan., holds a one-point edge on William Garner of Lebanon in the USRA Stock Cars. Springfield's JC Morton paces the B-Mods with a 34-point lead over Nevada's Jon Sheets and Jason Pursley of Hermitage has a 39-point cushion over Fulton's Ryan Middaugh in USRA Modifieds.

It's a runaway in the POWRi Late Models as Justin Wells of Aurora, winner of eight of nine features at the speedway this season, leads runner-up Tucker Cox of Jefferson City by 390 points.

Driver ticket giveaway: This Saturday marks the annual ticket giveaway to regulars in the four weekly divisions. Each driver gets up to 50 general admission grandstand tickets at payout, good for the Aug. 24th Rempfer Memorial Season Championship Night. Drivers with the most tickets used on Aug. 24th will win one free season crew member pit pass for 2025.

Kids' Pit Tour: Before this week's action, flagman Mike Striegel will lead a group of youngsters on a golf-car tour of the pits where they will have a chance to meet drivers and collect autographs. The kids can sign up at the RCR Designs Jr Fan Club table on the midway for a chance to enter the drawing for the tour, which starts at 5:15 p.m.

Pits open at 4 p.m. with grandstands at 4:30, hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05.
