Five drivers to watch as Kubota High Limit Diamond Classic makes first visit to Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, MO. (June 27, 2024) - One of the most-anticipated events of the Lucas Oil Speedway season is coming up Friday and Saturday with the inaugural Kubota High Limit Racing Diamond Classic.

Feature winners will earn $10,000 on Friday with the stakes rising to $25,000 for Saturday's main-event winner. While many of the nation's elite 410 Winged Sprint drivers will be on hand, here are five to keep an eye on:

Corey Day: The 18-year-old from Clovis, California, already was considered a rising star in the open-wheel world before he joined the Kubota High Limit series prior to the 2024 season. Day has lived up to the billing with five series feature victories, the latest of which might have been the most impressive.

Day drove from a 15th starting position to the front in just 14 laps at Wednesday's Kubota High Limit Midweek Money Series at Lake Ozark Speedway. Day led the rest of the way to earn the $20,000 prize.

It continued a huge recent stretch for Day. Last weekend, he won $79,6000 at the Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway in Burlington, Washington. Earlier this year, he drove a late model on pavement for the first time, for JR Motorsports, and won a feature at Hickory Speedway in North Carolina.

Brad Sweet: The 38-year-old Sweet, from Grass Valley, Calif., co-owns the Kubota High Limit Series with his brother-in-law, Kyle Larson. One of the big winners in sprint-car racing for two decades, Sweet leads the Kubota High Limit points chase and has six feature wins and 24 top-10 finishes in 25 events.

The five-time World of Outlaw Sprint champion also has extensive experience driving in the NASCAR Nationwide Xfinity Series and Truck Series.

Tyler Courtney: Another long-time big name in open-wheel racing, the 30-year-old from Indianapolis sits second in Kubota High Limit points 88 behind Sweet with three feature victories in the Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7BC.

After dominating the USAC ranks in the late 2010s with a Sprint Car and Midget championship to go along with 50-plus wins across three divisions, Courtney switched to wing racing in 2021 and quickly became one of the nation’s best.

Rico Abreu: Hailing from St. Helena, Calif., the 32-year-old Abreu has picked up two feature wins on the Kubota High Limit circuit in 2024 and stands fifth in points coming to Lucas Oil Speedway. Abreu emerged on the national scene by wining the Chili Bowl in back-to-back years, 2015 and 2016.

Abreu won four of six Kubota High Limit Midweek Madness races in 2023 and came up a close second to Kyle Larson for the points title before signing on for full-time High Limit Racing in 2024.

Ryan Timms: Another up-and-coming open-wheel star has experience finding victory lane at Lucas Oil Speedway. Ryan Timms, a 17-year-old from Oklahoma City, captured the prestigious Jesse Hockett-Daniel McMillin Memorial championship last fall, earning $10,000.

In limited action with the Kubota High Limit circuit in 2024, Timms has picked up a pair of top-10 finishes. He has eight feature wins overall this season.

Two-night reserved tickets at $80 are on sale online or by calling Admissions Director Nichole McMillan at (417) 295-6043 or they can be purchased online.
