Gospel quartet Anthem Edition free concert set for Saturday before MLRA Ron Jenkins Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 30, 2023) - The award-winning gospel quarter Anthem Edition is scheduled to perform a free concert in front of the Lucas Oil Speedway grandstand prior to Saturday night's MLRA Ron Jenkins Memorial Presented by Rugged Radios.

Former known as The Old Paths, Anthem Quartet will perform at 5:30 p.m. prior to the beginning of hot laps at 6:30 on Night Two of the Lucas Oil MLRA doubleheader.

"We enjoyed having them on hand last year as they put on a great show for our fans and are happy to welcome them back this year," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton said of Anthem Edition.

Anthem Edition burst onto the scene into 2003, initially as a trio called The Old Paths. Founding members Doug Roark and Tim Rackley set forth with a clear vision and mission: to glorify the Lord and seek His ways in everything. The trio soon morphed into a quartet, and started gaining national attention.

In 2012, the group signed with Crossroad Music’s Sonlite Records label, a collaboration which brought forth the breakout album, "Right Now." This debut record quickly yielded two No. 1 hits, "Battlestand" and "God’s Great," and earned the group a Singing News Fan Award for Favorite New Quartet.

A variety of circumstances led to the difficult decision for the group to stop touring in 2015, but just two years later, God opened the door for a return to the road. With a renewed passion and fire, Doug and Tim, along with bass singer Daniel Ashmore, welcomed Steve Ladd to the family to fill the tenor position. The quartet partnered once again with Crossroads, and in recent years have released several projects producing fan favorite songs such as "Come Sunday Morning," plus "Look at All I Lost," and "How Good The Good News Feels," among others.

In late 2022, The Old Paths announced that they would be changing the name of the group. After much consideration and discussion, the new name Anthem Edition was announced, as well as the addition of Andrew Utech as the group’s new bass vocalist. While the music and message have stayed the same from the beginning, Anthem Edition fully embodies the vision of the award-winning quartet, and positions them to forge their path into the future.

Meanwhile, Thomas Langley of Jasper, Alabama, returns to Lucas Oil Speedway with his Anthem Edition Late Model to join the action. Langley competed in the Hermitage Lumber Late Model division a year ago when the band performed at the speedway.

Action fires up on Friday with drivers chasing a $5,000-to-win feature with Saturday night's main event winner taking home $10,000 plus a $1,000 bonus courtesy of Mary Jenkins Holt in memory of Ron Jenkins, original builder of Wheatland Raceway. Marl also will give a $500 bonus to fast-time qualifier on Saturday night.

Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, looks to take another step toward a fourth Lucas Oil MLRA championship as he begins the weekend with a 165-point lead over Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa. Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., is 195 behind with Dillon McCowan fourth 290 behind the leader. McCowan, of Urbana, also leads the Sunoco MLRA Rookie of the Year standings.

Friday night's USRA Modified feature pays $700 to win and it's $500 to win in the B-Mod and Stock Car divisions. On Saturday, the USRA Modified winner collects $1,000 with the B-Mods and Stock Car winners earning $750.
