With an uncertain weather forecast, Lucas Oil Speedway Off Road event canceled

WHEATLAND, MO. (July 6, 2023) - With the weather forecast calling for rain and with many of the competitors scheduled to travel from out-of-state, Lucas Oil Speedway has decided to cancel Saturday's scheduled UTV Short Course Off Road event.

General Manager Danny Lorton said that multiple weather outlooks are forecasting a variety of rain probabilities, some as high as 80 percent. Off Road registration was set for Friday evening with an early start to the action on Saturday.

"It's not worth the risk of trying to get the event in with the majority of the teams having to drive many hours to be here Friday for registration, to travel that far to possibly get rained out," Lorton said, noting that at least one team was scheduled to make the trip from Mississippi.

"I just feel it's best to cancel early so they don't drive all the way here for nothing."

Lorton said for Saturday night's Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series event on the dirt track, a decision on whether to race will come later on Saturday morning.

Veterans and Military Appreciation Night Presented by Townsquare Media and KIX 105.7 FM will find the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods as the featured division with a special 25-lap, $750-to-win main event. Meanwhile, all Military members, active or retired, will be admitted free with ID.

Also in action as the season points championships resume will be the O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars, Hermitage Lumber Late Models and Cedar Creek Beef Jerky USRA Modifieds.

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. and grandstands at 5 with hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05.
