Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 23, 2020) – Garet Williamson remembers the disappointment of not qualifying for a single night of last year’s Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.

This isn’t last year. Williamson is a different driver in 2020 and he has continued to find speed and improve against top-flight 360ci sprint car competition.

That showed last weekend when the Columbia, Mo., driver qualified for the feature during two of three nights in the 10th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway. Most importantly, he made Saturday’s finale and came away with a 15th-place finish while facing a stacked field that included more than 70 drivers.

“I think on the whole, as a team, we did really good,” he said. “Coming from last year and not making a single night to this year and making it two nights, that’s pretty good. It gives us a lot of confidence as a team.”

Williamson showed speed on Night 1 of the three-day Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour show, winning a heat race and finishing sixth in a qualifier. He was going for the lead in a B Main when he suffered a fuel cell problem that ended the night early.

Williamson and the Bryant Paver Motorsports team had one of the quicker cars on Friday, advancing from fifth to third in a heat race and from fourth to second in a qualifier. He started eighth in the feature before finishing 12th.

In the finale, Williamson placed fourth in a qualifier, won a B Main and ended fourth in the Last Chance Qualifier to lock into the main event. He advanced five spots and came away with a 15th-place run in the feature.

“You need to look at it with an open mind and take the positives from it,” Williamson said of his opening night problems. “We were super fast, had a good car and everything was working well. It was just one of those weird deals you can’t predict.

“Sometimes things don’t work out in your favor. We went into the next night knowing we had a fast car and we were good the next two nights.”

Williamson gets another week off. It’s a chance to take care of any problems and fine tune before the final two events on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour schedule.

Up first is a trip to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 2-3 for the prestigious Short Track Nationals.

“We have Short Track Nationals in two weeks and I’m sure it’s going to be a super-stacked field,” he said. “We are off this weekend, which kind of sucks, but we are going to get everything ready. Short Track is a huge event and we want to be as prepared as we can be.”
