Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 21, 2020) – Alex Hill made improvement throughout the 10th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial hosted by Lucas Oil Speedway last weekend.

The Hill’s Racing Team driver fell just a few positions short of making the A Main on Saturday night after three nights of stout competition with a nearly 80-car field at the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

“We didn’t start off very well on the first night,” she said. “Our notes from last year didn’t seem to work well this year. The track was different this year with a curb around the bottom. That took some getting used to and I eventually got comfortable with it by the final night.”

Hill moved forward in all three of her races on Saturday. She went from eighth to sixth in her qualifier and fifth to fourth in a B Main. In the Last Chance Qualifier – her final opportunity to make the event’s biggest race – she raced from 12th to ninth, falling three spots shy of the final transfer position.

“We kept improving, but we just started too far back to get a transfer spot to the A Main,” she said.

Hill had a challenging evening on the opening night last Thursday when she finished ninth in her heat race and eighth in her qualifier. She advanced from 16th to 10th in the B Main.

Friday began well for her with a heat race victory.

“I started second and got a really good start,” she said. “I was able to get the lead right away and hold it to the finish so that was nice.”

Hill followed up her heat race win with a ninth-place run in her qualifier and a sixth-place finish in the B Main after starting eighth.

Hill will take this week off before competing in the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., Oct. 2-3.
