Kentucky Drag Boat Association adds August KDBA Drag Boat Show-Me Shootout on Lake Lucas

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Another drag boat racing event has been added at Lucas Oil Speedway. The Kentucky Drag Boat Association-sanctioned KDBA Drag Boat Show-Me Shootout Presented by Lucas Oil scheduled for Aug. 1-2 on Lake Lucas.

KDBA President Barry Salsman said the event will be identical in format to the KDBA Inaugural Drag Boat Summer Thunder on Lake Lucas coming up June 13-14, with classes from the Top Alcohol Hydro on down to sportsman classes including personal watercraft.

The 9th annual Diamond Drag Boat Nationals, co-sanctioned by the KDBA and Southern Drag Boat Association, is set for Sept. 5-6.

"Everybody is wanting to race and looking for a place to race and we're excited about coming back there in August, after our race in June," Salsman said. The August event will replace one in Evansville, Illinois, on the Kaskaskia River, which the promoter there has opted not to have this year.

Salsman said it's a big advantage to plan a race at Lake Lucas, where is quality controlled, because its takes away worry about fluctuating river levels.

"We've had quite a few calls about our June race and I think it's going to be a good turnout of racers," Salsman said. "We're really looking forward to getting out to Wheatland."

"We're excited to have the KBDA coming back for the August (KDBA Drag Boat Show-Me Shootout Presented by Lucas Oil) and can't wait to see action on Lake Lucas next month for the Inaugural Summer Thunder," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton said. "We know a lot of racers and drag-boat racing fans have been looking forward to Lake Lucas firing back up."
