Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 25, 2019) – Derek Hagar hustled to a trio of top-five results last weekend during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway.

“On Thursday we didn’t pull a great pill, which was consistent with the rest of our year,” he said. “Thankfully we were able to capitalize on the number we pulled so that worked out in our favor. In our heat race we started sixth and finished fourth. Then we started second in our qualifier and finished first.”

Hagar made it directly into the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature. He started seventh and made his way up to fourth. This marked his first top five of the weekend and put him in a great position regarding his event points standing.

“We started eighth in the heat race and gained some spots to finish fourth in our heat on Friday and then we started and finished fourth in a qualifier,” he said. “Our performance wasn’t enough that day so we had to run a B Main.”

Hagar won a consolation race, which transferred him into the 19th starting position in the main event. His car was locked down and he managed to pass 14 cars to finish fifth. He also earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“With how well we ran the first two nights we were automatically in for the show on Saturday,” he said. “We started fourth and made our way up to second at one point, but fell back to third. Then we had the red flag come out and my one tire was getting pretty flat. I couldn’t stick the bottom like I had been before and I got passed. I couldn’t be too upset with a fourth-place finish though.

“It was a really great weekend. We made the show all three nights while competing against 70 cars. I was definitely happy with our outcomes. This Saturday we head to Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., for another ASCS Mid-South race. We’ve won the past two shows there so I’m hoping we can grab another victory.”
