Rempfer Memorial Season Championship, with tight Late Model points battle, set for Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, Missouri - One year after waging what was likely the closest points race in track history, the same three drivers are it again as the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series season concludes Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway.

Entering the Rempfer Memorial Season Championship Presented by Bill Roberts Chevrolet-Buick and KOLR/KRBK, it's again a blanket finish in the Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models between Aaron Marrant, Johnny Fennewald and Kaeden Cornell.

Marrant, the 2016 champion, holds a two-point lead over two-time defending class champion Fennewald and Cornell trails the leader by just four. Amazingly, it's the same order and same points differential that the trio entered championship night one year ago.

In a race that came down to the final lap of the feature, Fennewald won the race and the title. Cornell finished second and Marrant third in that night's main event and wound up tied for second in the points.

So, here we go again in what promises to be another intriguing night in which every position on the track will be vital.

The Pitts Homes USRA Modified title race also is a good one with Robbie Reed leading Jason Pursley by 27 points and Chase Domer by 58. Kris Jackson takes a 50-point lead over JC Morton into the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mod finale. Toby Ott has more breathing room atop the O'Reilly Auto Parts Street Stocks with a 91-point command over Johnny Coats.

"It's going to be another exciting finish as we crown our Weekly Racing Series champions," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton said. "And we have a lot of other fun things going on as we pay tribute to our friends 'Rowdy' and Julia Rempfer."

Harold "Rowdy" Rempfer and his wife, Julia, were killed in an automobile accident one year ago this weekend. Rowdy was the mayor of Wheatland and he and Julia both worked at Lucas Oil Speedway. Dan Robinson, Lucas Oil Director of Racing Operations, recalled that Rowdy preceded him at the speedway and had a deep love for the community.

"He was one of those guys that never met a stranger," Robinson said. "He was so proud to have Wheatland Raceway and subsequently Lucas Oil Speedway in town that he himself took care mowing the grass to perfection every week and helping out wherever needed. He loved hanging out with his buddies before and during the races.

"Jules was the same way, always a friendly smiling face for our guests and her co-workers and would do anything anywhere to help out at any time. They are both dearly missed and were an integral part of our community and our operation."

Added Lorton: "I only knew Rowdy and Jules a few short years but they were like family to everyone here and are missed every week. Rowdy always had a joke or something to tell and Jules always had a smile when I talked with her in the ticket booth."

Lucas Oil 2-Seater ride raffle: Meanwhile, fans also have a chance to experience what it's like to make laps around the track with the return of the raffle for a ride inside the Lucas Oil 2-Seater Late Model.

Raffle tickets will be sold with the winning ticket drawn just prior to intermission for a five-lap ride with former Late Model racer Lorton behind the wheel. Tickets will be sold for $2 each, six for $10 or 12 for $20. Fans must be 18 years of age or older to participate and sign a waiver form.

Mizzou to You: Also on the midway on Saturday will be the "Mizzou to You" display from the Missouri University Office of Extension and Engagement. With a goal of showcasing research, learning, resources and services that touch lives, inspires innovation and solves problems in Hickory County and across Missouri, there will be more than 20 booths offering demos and services about Mizzou. Included will be athletics, Tigers for Troops, 4-H Robotics, the Mizzou Eco Racing and Formula SAE Teams, agriculture, health screenings, Mizzou tattoos and a door prize.

Public Safety Appreciation Night: In what's become another annual event, it will be Public Safety Appreciation Night. All Police, Fire and Rescue personnel will be admitted FREE with ID.

Sit in a suite: Lorton also reminds fans that individual suite tickets are available for $25 each, not including food or drinks. That includes admission to a suite, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
