Lucas Oil Speedway campground spots available for upcoming Diamond Nationals

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- One of the popular amenities of Lucas Oil Speedway is the campground and, after being closed for repairs following the severe weather in late May, it will be open to the public for the 13th annual CMH Diamond Nationals on July 13-14.

General Manager Danny Lorton said a limited number of water/electric spots remain, but plenty of dry camping is available for the Diamond Nationals weekend. Campers can call the speedway office at (417) 282-5984 or email Admissions Director Nichole McMillan at nichole@lucasoilspeedway.com for more information.

McMillan said cost for water/electric is $35 per night. Dry reserved spots are $20 per night and non-numbered, non-reserved dry camping spots are $10 per night. Campers can check in as early as Friday afternoon, July 12 with a check out time of noon on July 15.

An onsite shower house, water and electric hookups, fishing ponds and hiking trails are all enclosed in the campground, located east and northeast of the Lucas Oil Speedway pit area.

The Diamond Nationals have been expanded to two nights to help make up for cancellation of the Show-Me 100 Presented by ProtecttheHarvest.com after storms hit the speedway on May 20. Full programs for the Lucas Oil Late Model Series and Lucas Oil MLRA Series are scheduled, with $15,000-to-win features each night.

The Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds will be the support class on July 13 with a $2,000-to-win feature. On July 14, the O'Reilly Auto Parts Street Stocks will be in action, with the feature winner taking home $1,000.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. on July 13 with hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05. On July 14, everything will be one hour earlier.

Admission prices (both nights):
Adults (16 and over) $30
Seniors (62 and over)/Military $27
Youth (ages 6-15) $10
Kids (5 and under) FREE
Family pass $70
Pit pass $40

Thursday Night Thunder: This week at Lucas Oil Speedway is a special "Thursday Night Thunder" edition of the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. The Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models will be running a 25-lap feature paying $1,000 to win.

The Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods and O'Reilly Auto Parts Street Stocks also will be in action, with a big fireworks show courtesy of AM Pyrotechnics capping the festivities.

It's also the annual Kids' Bicycle Night Giveaway, for boys and girls ages 5-12, during intermission. Youngsters can sign up for the Frog's Signs Junior Fan Club when they arrive at the speedway for a chance to win a new bicycle. The speedway is still seeking donations of bicycles or cash donations toward new bikes. For questions or more details, contact Lisa Lorton at the Lucas Oil Speedway office (417) 282-5984 or via email at lisa@lucasoilspeedway.com.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05. Visit participating area Casey's General Stores locations for $2 discount coupons to the night's activities.

Thursday ticket prices:
Adults (16 and over) $12
Seniors (62 and over)/Military $9
Youth (ages 6-15) $5
Kids (5 and under) FREE
