Different kind of thrills come to Lucas Oil Speedway this weekend with Amped Up Pro Bull Riding Tour

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Lucas Oil Speedway plays host to a different kind of edge-of-your seat, high-energy event this weekend as the Amped Up Pro Bull Tour returns to the dirt track.

The Lucas Oil Pro Bull Riding Invitational Presented by ProtecttheHarvest.com has $12,000 added to the purse with full programs Friday and Saturday. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. both nights.

"The first Lucas Oil Pro Invitational Pro Bull Riding Invitational last year was a big hit and we're excited to have them back this weekend," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton said. "It's really entertaining for hard-core fans of bull riding and for our usual racing fans who want to check out something a bit different."

The Amped Up Pro Bull Tour is headquartered in Warrensburg, Missouri. It has 21 events on the schedule in 2019 in Missouri and Arkansas, for individual and team competitions.

Isaiah Dunn of Amped Up Productions said there will be 40 professional riders competing on Friday and Saturday, several of whom participate on both the Amped Up Tour and the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Tour. Included among those is Shane Proctor of Grand Coulee, Washington, the 2011 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) champion considered one of the greatest bull riders to ever compete on both PRCA and PBR circuits.

Timmy Vaughan of Tonganoxie, Kansas, leads the Amped Up Tour in earning so far this season with Dakota Eagleburger of Fair Grove, Missouri, in second. Eagleburger is the defending champion of the Lucas Oil Speedway event. Other featured riders include Zane Cook, Jesse Tillman and Casey Coulter, all Amped Up and PBR finals qualifiers. Coulter is a two-time Amped Up Reserve Champion.

"Last year was our first time there and we had a really good crowd for the first year," Dunn said of Lucas Oil Speedway. "This year is shaping up to be just as good."

In addition to the bull riding action, fans will be entertained by Jarrett Dougherty, a multi-award winning comedian who performs on-stage in Branson. Dougherty will be performing and entertaining the crowd throughout the programs, both Friday and Saturday with a motto "he's sure to tickle your funny bone ... and that's no bull!"

Dunn said there also will be five mini riders, ages 9-12, that will be riding "mini" bulls. "They look like regular bulls, just smaller," Dunn said.

"We'll have pyrotechnics at the beginning of the show, then we also have the fireworks after the show," Dunn added. "A lot of vendors will be there and we'll have a lot of giveaways. It's going to be a fun time."

Tickets are available in advance at PFI Western Store, 2816 S. Ingram Mill Road, in Springfield, or can be purchased at the gate either night. For more information on the series go to AmpedUpProBullTour.com.
