Meet the Lucas Oil Speedway Staff: People-person McMillan enjoys role as Admissions Director

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Nichole McMillan considers herself a people person and that's a good thing, as she's in charge of getting people to attend the races at Lucas Oil Speedway.

"The best thing about my job is dealing with the fans every day and all the spectators," said McMillan, who's beginning her fourth season at Lucas Oil Speedway Admissions Director. "I know names and faces after four years and there's a rapport and camaraderie. It's fun."

McMillan, a native of Cleveland, Ohio who attended Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Mo., is especially busy this time of the year as tickets are on sale for all individual events, plus the multi-day 27th annual Show-Me 100 Presented by ProtecttheHarvest.com.

She's also in charge of leasing the 21 VIP suites high atop the main grandstand, plus working with fans desiring a camping spot. The fast-paced job also includes being in the Lucas Oil Speedway main office and answering various questions during the week from callers.

"Ticket sales for all events started February 1, but that's also when Show-Me 100 tickets were opened to the public," McMillan said. "The phones have been really busy about getting three-day reserved seats for the Show-Me.

"As the weather warms up, people are thinking more and more about (buying tickets). As we get into the spring, it's really going to take off."

McMillan grew up in Ohio and moved to Missouri when a military parent was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. She eventually settled in Wheatland where, before being promoted to Admissions Director, she worked at Lucas Oil Speedway as a bartender for five years.

Husband Pat McMillan works at the speedway on the security crew. She has two daughters - 16-year-old Kennedy Griffin and 12-year-old Ruby Griffin - who participate in sports while attending Wheatland High School.

While off weekends are rare, especially from April through October, she spends time with family and friends "just catching up."

"We have a lot of fun here at the race track," McMillan added. "The people you work with, you consider them family."

While fans always can buy general admission tickets at the gate, McMillan encourages fans to consider purchasing the three-day reserved ticket for the Show-Me 100 (May 23-25). And for those interested in camping, reserve your spot sooner rather waiting.

"The Off Road event (3rd annual GEICO Off Road Shootout Presented by General Tire, June 29-30) is a huge camping weekend and all MLRA events are big camping weekends as are the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling (Sept. 13-14) and Hockett/McMillin Memorial (Sept. 19-21). I'm hoping the Big Buck 50 (Oct. 3-5) will take off, being a three-day event. If there's someone who wants to come and camp, they should probably reach out pretty quick."

To inquire about tickets, VIP suites or camping, contact McMillan at (417) 282-5984 or via email at Nichole@LucasOilSpeedway.com.

The 2019 Lucas Oil Speedway season kicks off March 30 with an open test and tune. The Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series begins April 6 with action in all four of the weekly divisions - Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods, Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models and O'Reilly Auto Parts Street Stocks.
