Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 27, 2018) – Travis Rilat’s first visit to Lucas Oil Speedway in approximately nine years had mixed results last weekend.

The BDS Motorsports driver opened the 8th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial on Thursday by winning a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com heat race. A fifth-place result in a qualifier earned enough points to lock into the 16th starting position in the main event.

“The track was mostly one lane around the bottom so there wasn’t much of an opportunity to pass,” he said. “Once the rubber came in everyone was down there fighting for the bottom.”

Rilat gained a pair of positions to finish 14th.

An unfavorable draw doomed the team on Friday when Rilat started near the back of a heat race. He advanced a position to place seventh before moving up one spot in a B Main to finish ninth. Rilat used a provisional to start the main event, but he pulled off the track early.

“We didn’t make enough progress in the heat race to make a qualifier and if you aren’t in a qualifier it’s nearly impossible to drive from the back of the B Main into a transfer position,” he said. “Since the ASCS provisionals don’t award points we decided to take the green flag and pull off early to make sure we didn’t risk damaging any of our equipment.”

The event concluded on Saturday with Rilat finishing where he started in both a last chance qualifier – fifth – and a B Main – third. That ended one position shy of transferring into the main event.

“The track was too good and we just weren’t able to get it done,” he said. “It was unfortunate, but that’s part of racing. We’ll move on to the next race and work hard to earn better results.”

The next ASCS National Tour event is Oct. 19-20 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
