Bryan Hulbert – WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 26, 2018) A successful season for Sam Hafertepe, Jr. finally got a little sweeter this past weekend, as the Hills Racing Team No. 15h landed the season’s first $10,000 score with Sam’s second Hockett/McMillin Memorial victory in as many years.

“It felt good to win like we did. I feel like all year we’ve had the speed to do what we did but never actually have got it done. For whatever reason, whatever was holding us back, we’ve had the cars to do it, and everything finally came together on Saturday night,” stated Hafertepe.

Rolling through Thursday’s opener with a runner-up finish, Hafertepe followed that up with a sixth-place run on Friday night. Through the event’s combined point structure, Sam gridded Saturday’s $10,000 to win A-Feature outside the front row. Bringing his 2018-win total to 12, Hafertepe dominated the 30-lap championship event.

“The first two nights we were kind of searching around and come Saturday night we had the car where we wanted it to be for the first time all weekend. It’s a special race, and every year it just gets bigger. The names behind it, the fans, and the teams that show up it just makes it even more special to win a race like the Hockett/McMillin.”

Looking ahead the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h team will be off this coming weekend as the crew gets ready for the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. on October 5 and 6.
