Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 24, 2018) – Sammy Swindell will add a new track to his long list when he invades Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., this weekend for an IRA Sprint Car Series doubleheader.

Swindell is slated to make his debut at the oval while driving for Thone Motorsports.

“We’ll be up there Wednesday so that will give me a couple of days in the shop,” he said. “Hopefully we can go through there and fine-tune some stuff. I built some shocks just to run on that car. Hopefully we can have a weekend that we don’t have any issues with getting run into.”

It has been a frustrating last few weeks of action for Swindell, who competed last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway during the 8th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.

Swindell and car owner A.G. Rains kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com event on Thursday by maneuvering from seventh to third place in a heat race. He then won a qualifier after starting fifth, which ranked him third in points out of more than 50 drivers.

“The first night was going pretty good, but I didn’t get to make a lap in the A Main,” he said. “I was on the inside of a guy and he turned down into me. We slid up into the wall. It hit on the left rear corner and broke the frame. That destroyed that car.”

Not only did the contact on the opening lap relegate Swindell to a 23rd-place result, the team was forced to use the back-up car for the remainder of the weekend.

“They’re a little different so it’s about sorting it out some,” he said. “The setup on it wasn’t too bad, but we had to keep working on it. That heat race I was in on Friday, it took two or three starts and then the last one everyone slid up and I got stuck. Everybody got single file and we wound up running fifth.”

A fifth-place run in the heat race and a charge from ninth to sixth in a qualifier relegated Swindell to a B Main. He was running second when a mechanical problem sidelined him for the remainder of the night.

The event concluded on Saturday with Swindell advancing from fifth to fourth place in a last chance qualifier. That lined him up third in a B Main, which transferred the top two to the A Main.

“I got tied up with some guys and the track was so fast,” he said. “On the last lap I passed the guy for second. When I slid him he came across and ran into me. I had to get on the brakes to keep from hitting the fence.”

Swindell ended third to miss a transfer position by only one spot.

“I think there was a full moon each night,” he joked.
