Weekly Racing Series resumes Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway, with drag boats also in action

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- After a week off, Lucas Oil Speedway roars back to life in a big way this weekend with doubleheader action on the dirt oval and drag-boat lake.

In the next-to-last Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series before the Midseason Championships, hot points battles are developing in each of the four divisions. Saturday night finds the program, Presented by KY3 Digital with the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods featured, running a special 25-lap feature for $750-to-win.

Fans also have an opportunity to watch some of the world's fastest boats, Friday and Saturday, with the 7th annual John Haas Memorial Drag Boat Classic on the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. Those purchasing two-day passes, or Saturday tickets to the drag boat races on "Lake Lucas" will be admitted free to the dirt-track action.

On the dirt, Kris Jackson of Lebanon holds a slim five-point lead over 2016 track champion JC Morton of Springfield in the B-Mod points chase. Robert Heydenreich of Bolivar, winner of the season-opening feature, is just 27 points behind Jackson when action resumes on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, David Hendrix of Waynesville leads the Big O Tires Street Stocks standings by 13 points over Brian Schutt of Lebanon. Bobby Barnett of Republic and Wheatland's Toby Ott, the reigning track champ, are tied for third 66 points behind the leader.

The man to beat in the Pitts Homes USRA Modified division so far in 2018 has been Darron Fuqua of Mayetta, Kansas, with three feature wins. Fuqua is 20 points clear of Lance Town of Wellsville, Kansas, and four-time reigning champion Jeff Cutshaw of Bolivar trails by 51 points.

In the Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models, Aaron Marrant of Richmond leads Nevada's Larry Ferris by 38 points and Josh Poe of Peculiar by 39. Marrant already is a two-time feature winner.

Saturday night's program also is being filmed for airing later in the year on MAVTV Motorsports Network and LucasOilRacing.TV.

"With the Midseason Championships just a week away, this is a key week for those near the top to be positioned for extra cash," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said, noting that the midseason champs will each take home an extra $500 each after the June 16 program.

For the second straight year, Victory Lane Track Action Race Review magazine, which is distributed free to fans each week at the speedway, will contribute $1,000 toward a bonus for Midseason Track Champions in each of the four divisions. Lucas Oil Speedway management will again match the "Geared Up Program" contribution with another $1,000, with the total of $2,000 will be split among the points leaders.

Meanwhile, on "Lake Lucas" action will get underway on Friday with round one of qualifying at 9 a.m. in the sportsman division and 10:30 a.m. for the pro division. Round two is set for 12:30 p.m. for the sportsman boats and 2 p.m. for the pros. On Saturday, the first round of eliminations are set for 9 a.m., with round two at 12:30 p.m., round three at 2:30 and eliminations in all classes starting at 3 p.m.

The John Haas Memorial honors the former Top Fuel Hydro world champion who lost his life in a practice crash at a race in Oklahoma in 2010.
