Hanks Closes Challenging Weekend with Top 10 at Double X Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – CALIFORNIA, Mo. (June 23, 2015) – Brandon Hanks is coming off a trying weekend for the David Smith Racing team.

“This past weekend we were scratching our heads,” he said. “We struggled with the car and couldn’t get it to do what we wanted to do. We were too tight. We could get it good come feature-time, but that’s too late.”

Hanks kicked off the weekend on Friday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Okla., during Round 4 of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek – the previous two rounds were rained out in Oklahoma. He finished seventh in a heat race before being caught up in a crash during the B Main.

The team replaced the front axle, nose wing and front bumper before taking a provisional into the back of the main event.

“We were good and made up a few spots, but we still weren’t where we wanted to be,” he said. “In traffic I ran where they didn’t. If the guy in front of me went to the bottom I’d go to the top and try to make it work. I found a couple of good spots. Once we got out in the open I was good.”

Hanks advanced from last – 23rd – to post a 15th-place result.

Speedweek wrapped up on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., where Hanks finished fifth in a heat race and second in a B Main to lock himself into the main event.

“We were good, just not good enough,” he said. “The car handled good, but it was like we didn’t have speed.”

Hanks maneuvered from 19th to earn a 14th-place finish.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Double X Speedway with the ASCS Warrior Region. Hanks placed third in a heat race, which lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“We started in the middle of the field in the A Main and just like the two nights before we were good, but we weren’t great,” he said. “I was moving all over the track trying to find a place my car liked. About halfway through we found something and moved forward a few spots.”

Hanks recorded a 10th-place result, which marked his eighth top 10 of the season.

He is slated to compete this Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
