Need to know: 2013 Lucas Oil ASCS Speedweek

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (June 7, 2013) The 2013 edition of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek begins in a week’s time at the Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas.

The six night slate will encompass four states (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Missouri) with over $180,000 in prize money up for grabs.

With guest appearances by drivers like Tony Stewart a part of this year’s week long test of endurance, each track will over its own unique twist to test the mental, physical, and sometimes emotional versatility of both driver and crew member.

To help drivers and fans who will travel the 2013 Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, a quick breakdown of each event will be as follows:

Friday, June 14, 2013
Kennedale Speedway Park - Kennedale, Texas
Track size: Quarter Mile
Series: ASCS National / Smiley's Racing Products Lone Star Region
Gates: 5:00 P.M. (CDT)
Races: 8:00 P.M.
Location: 6737 Hudson Village Creek Rd. Kennedale, TX 76060
Directions: I-20 to Exit 442-A, then 1.7 miles southeast on Mansfield Hwy., then 1.6 miles southwest on New Hope Rd., then 0.3 mile east on Hudson Village Creek Rd.

The Kennedale Speedway Park has provided dates for the Smiley’s Racing Products Lone Star Region as well as the American Bank of Oklahoma Sooner Region, but will for the first time bring in the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real for the Speedweek opener. The quarter-mile surface was redone during the winter months, with loads of fresh clay applied to a recut racing surface. The evening will include 600 non-wing A Class and winged Restrictor Mini Sprints, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks & Mod Lites in addition to the Lucas Oil ASCS.

A staple of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real, the Parks Auto Sales Summer Nationals will be the seventy-fourth time the National Tour has graced the half-mile oval. In the series first visit of 2013, Kyle Bellm picked up his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win in the rain shortened Matt Clevenger Memorial. The 2012 Summer Nationals saw Brian Brown park the FVP/Casey’s General Store/Searsboro No. 21 in victory lane for the first time at the Devil’s Bowl. The night’s classes will include Late Models, USA Modifieds, and USA Limited Modifieds.

It’s never too late for a first time visit, as the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real ventures into Modified country at the Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La. A product of Steven Schaberg and SSR Promotions, the first time visit will feature the best of southern hospitality with a Fanfest scheduled for 2:00 P.M. (CDT) that will include Smokey Joe’s BBQ, Beer Gardens, and lots of Sweet Tea. ASCS drivers will be on hand to sign autographs for fans in the official ASCS souvenir program as well as event cards provided by SSR Promotions. The night will also include Factory Stocks and Modifieds.

The Lawton Speedway is a relatively new addition to the Lucas Oil ASCS National lineup, as far as Lanny Edward owned facilities go, with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real racking up 11 appearances since Daryn Pittman’s victory in 1998. Featuring a guest appearance by three time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart, reserved seats are on sale and going fast for the Speedweek appearance. The 2012 Speedweek stop saw Wayne Johnson top side ride to victory. USA Modifieds and Limited Modifieds will complete the Wednesday card.

Directions: From Tulsa: Take I-44 west [Turner Turnpike] to exit 211 [Kellyville Exit]. Turn left to stop light [Highway 66] turn right and track is 1 mile on left side of highway.

The track that started it all, the Creek County Speedway will bring the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real for a Thursday night appearance with the NOW 600 Micro Sprints in tow. Built by Emmett Hahn in 1986, Creek County Speedway began as a sixth-mile Micro/Midget track before expanding to the present day quarter-mile in 1992. Seventeen Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real dates have been logged at the Oklahoma oval. The last Speedweek appearance was in 2008 with Jason Johnson prevailing. The most recent national winner came in August, 2012 with Brady Bacon winning in front of a hometown crowd. A Fanfest will begin at 4:30 P.M. with Sirloin Steak dinners on sale for $7.00.

For the second year running, the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” will again host the finale to the Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek. The 2012 edition saw a first time national winner with Lone Jack, Mo. driver Cody Baker taking the $4,000 payday. The site of the Hockett/McMillin Memorial, Lucas Oil Speedway has played host to the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real nine times with six winners. Jason Johnson has a trio of wins to his credit with Tim Crawley credited with a pair of nights. Brady Bacon, Cody Backer, Shane Stewart, and Brian Brown each have a single triumph at the Lucas Oil Speedway. The Wingless Auto Racing Sprint Cars (WAR Sprints) will accompany the Lucas Oil ASCS lineup.
